Two Truths and A Lie by Suki van Dijk - available now on the Kindle app and in paperback.
Kat has the perfect life, right? Beautiful home, beautiful daughter, great husband...everything is exactly as it should be. So why, while taking her daughter to the prep school both she and Bree's father attended, is it that the only thing Kat can think about is her wild-child 80's self, the charismatic drug addicted boy she was in love with at school, and all the life choices she's made that have led her to this moment.
By turns humorous and emotional, Two Truths and a Lie explores the truths and lies we tell ourselves, and the people we love. Two Truths and a Lie is contemporary women’s fiction. A wry take on suburban New York life, as well as a peek behind the curtain of New England prep schools.

"In Two Truths and a Lie, van Dijk’s forty-something suburban narrator, Kat, drops her daughter off at the prep school she attended and is confronted with the story of her first love—the version she chooses to believe. This coming-of-age tale is presented forthrightly, swooping from past to present, and quickly breaking the ice with the reader through its obsessions, secrets, doubts and betrayals. Van Dijk’s debut novel is a touching portrait of how the past can invade the mind—and change it for good.”~Maureen Pilkington, Author, This Side of Water: Stories
So which are the truths? And which is the lie? Van Dijk keeps us guessing throughout her captivating story of an obsessive love that unfolds from her narrator’s teenage schooldays to her early middle age and motherhood.
Through Kat’s eyes, then and now, we witness life in a New England prep school in the early 1980s, where she plunges “crash bang” into love with the charismatic but deeply troubled Derek. It’s an event with life-long consequences for Kat that will keep the reader hooked—because as she reflects, “He never broke my heart the same way twice.”
The book is often laugh-out-loud funny, with the narrator’s perceptive observations of 80s fashion, music, and teenage rituals. But it’s always powerfully moving, especially as Kat watches her own daughter take the same steps a generation later.
Two Truths and a Lie is a time-shifting tale that keeps the surprises coming to the end … and then continues to haunt you.~Alan Beechey, Author, Oliver Swithin Mysteries
